If you want to stay in a campground where you can wake up and step outside, to see a turkey hen and her chicks scratching for food, then Bear Den Campground is the place for you. This is one of the most secluded campgrounds that we have had the pleasure of staying. The campground is literally off the parkway, at the end of a long drive deep in the forest. Though secluded you are still able to get to Marion, Spruce Pine or Linville in minutes.
Bear Den has very clean and well maintained facilities. The sites have been fairly well laid out, giving you a good amount of privacy and space. There are group tent sites as well as sites for campers and cabins of all sorts. The bath house is large enough that you don’t feel cramped when others are there and has a laundry area on the back.
They put a lot of thought into making the campground enjoyable for the whole family. There are several playgrounds and even swings, beside the bathhouse, to occupy children while parents wash clothes or prepare for the day. Also, they have a game room with pool tables and video games, and another with ping pong tables. If you like fishing, there is a pond with a walkway/dock for fishing and a patio on another side with chairs and tables for socializing. Across the road, from the pond, there is a nice basketball court, although the turkeys always seemed to be using it.
