Museum of North Carolina Minerals
The state of North Carolina hosts a rich assortment of gems in its mountains. No place can do it justice like the Museum of North Carolina Minerals. A popular attraction just of the Parkway, the museum displays more than 300 types of minerals.
There are plenty of interactive displays that highlights the rich local mineral deposits. Including a re-creation of the "grand collision" which shows the development of the Appalachian Mountains. There are plenty of exhibits that highlight how mining played a major factor for the people who used the precious minerals to better their lives.
For more historic events you can visit in mid September. Each year the museum hosts an encampment of Revolutionary War reenactors. They portray the Overmountain Men on their way to battle at Kings Mountain.
